Not for anything that we can do in our office! The monthly membership fee will cover all of our primary care services, as many visits as you might need in a year. There may be small additional costs for some in-office tests (urine tests, strep tests, etc.), and we will dispense medications at cost. We can also offer a very low-cost option for any lab tests. If you do have insurance and would like to use that to cover medications and labs, we can make that happen!
If you don't have health insurance, that is absolutely fine with us! Your monthly membership fee will cover all of our primary care services, as many visits as you might need in a year. There may be small additional costs for some in-office tests (urine tests, strep tests, etc.), and we will dispense medications at cost. We can also offer a very low-cost option for any lab tests. We created Sanctuary Family Medicine to make care accessible to all, and we are willing to work with you to make this happen!
Your monthly membership for Sanctuary Family Medicine is not covered by insurance. If you would like to use your insurance to pay for labs and medications, we can do that in the same way any other medical office can!
This is something we're working on! Please check with us at info@sanctuaryfamilymedicine.com to see where things stand.
At this time, we cannot accept patients with Medicare. This situation may change in the future, so please feel free to check back.
Family Medicine is a field of medicine where clinicians are trained to work with patients of all ages and all genders. Family doctors can care for infants, children, adolescents, adults, and older folks, and can provide any type of care: preventive care (like yearly check-ups and cervical cancer screening), acute care (for colds, coughs, urinary symptoms, or other new issues), and chronic care management (for illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol). Family physicians can provide general medical care, and are also trained in behavioral health and mental health treatment as part of our wide scope of training and experience.
We do offer a discount to families and groups of folks who sign up together. We don't want to control who counts as family, so we have set up a plan where there is a monthly discount for groups of folks who are all members of the practice. If there are two or more people who sign up together, then the discount applies. These could be direct family members (spouse or children), partners, roommates, polycules, friends, etc.--we will welcome everyone!
See Pricing under the Services tab.
This will depend on your insurance situation. If you have insurance, we can refer you to a specialist just as any other medical office would. If you are uninsured, we will work to connect you with specialist offices who can offer lower-cost cash-pay options. For folks with lower incomes, we will help connect you to a specialist through the AccessNow program. You can learn more about eligibility here: https://accessnowrva.org/eligibility-for-services/ All of that said, we hope we will not need to make many referrals! With the ability to spend more time with you during each visit and the ability to check in with you more often (without any additional cost to you!), we can work with you to help figure out what might be troubling you and to find the best treatment options available.
Direct Primary Care works because of the commitment we have between patients and the practice. Each member pays their monthly membership fee, and this allows us to be open and available to all members when they need us. This means that we cannot keep going if folks add and drop memberships based on whether they feel they need care at that time or not. As a result, if a member stops their membership, they will not be able to re-enter the practice for 6 months and they will need to pay another application fee to restart the membership. We also understand that life is not always predictable, and we are willing to help you through hard times as much as we can. Before canceling your membership, please let us know and we are happy to talk through options.
Mark is Spanish/English bilingual, and can provide care without need for an interpreter. For languages other than Spanish, we will have access to online interpreter services.
